  • Apply through the Saskatchewan Health Authority, Regina or Lloydminster, depending on location.
  • Do not begin construction until the required permit has been issued.
  • Arrange the required inspection and follow shoreland rules near lakes, rivers and other water bodies.

Contact the responsible public health office before selecting or excavating the site.
Submit the permit application, site information and system design required for the project.
Install the system according to the approved design and provincial guide.
Arrange inspection and keep the permit, drawings and maintenance information.
Important requirementImportant change: amendments take effect November 1, 2026. The permit fee rises from $30 to $100, added design documents become mandatory, and provincially recognized designer certification will be required for most systems other than a standard septic tank installation or jet-type disposal system. Shoreland requirements will move into the Private Sewage Works Regulations on the same date.
